Evokey participated in the 9th edition of the Aqaba Conference in 2023, marking its first involvement since its inception in 2008. The conference took place from May 15th to May 18th, 2023, in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone under the theme “Building the Future Together.”
The 9th edition of the conference was not limited to topics related to marine insurance and transportation. The organizing committee of the conference made sure to include subjects that address the latest insurance developments worldwide, with a focus on current issues that concern all global insurance markets. The conference gave special attention to technology and automation in the insurance sector. The topics for the conference were carefully selected to discuss the most important issues of the hour, including:
- The impact of implementing the IFRS 17 standard on insurance companies.
- Applications of enterprise risk management in insurance markets.
- Presenting the experiences of insurance pools, including the Green Card experience.
- The role of artificial intelligence in insurance operations.
- Agricultural insurance.
- “Travel Insurance after the COVID-19 Crisis” (current situation and developments).
- Mergers and acquisitions in the insurance sector.
- Alternative dispute resolution solutions.
The conference saw the participation of 3,169 attendees and featured 139 speakers and session chairpersons.
This conference was supported and participated in by major global, Arab, and local insurance and reinsurance companies, as well as a prominent presence of legal and insurance experts, insurance brokers and agents, loss adjusters, and representatives from companies and institutions related to the insurance industry. The conference discusses various topics with a distinguished lineup of speakers and session chairs who are experts from the local, regional, and international markets, specializing in technical and legal insurance issues. These experts represent major insurance and reinsurance companies from around the world.
A total of 42 Arab and foreign countries participated in the 9th edition of the Aqaba International Insurance Conference under the media sponsorship of a reputable news magazine.
The organizing committee of the conference continues its preparations for the logistical services related to this year’s edition. The committee held a meeting with Naif Al-Fayez, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, in the presence of several commissioners and the Director of Tourism Management in Aqaba, Mr. Peter Marji.
Representatives from the Jordan Insurance Federation participated in the meeting, including Eng. Majed Samirat, Chairman of the Federation’s Board of Directors, and Eng. Emad Al-Hajja, Vice Chairman of the Federation’s Board of Directors, as well as members of the board and the organizing committee, including Alaa Abdeljawad, Dr. Lana Badr, Dr. Muayad Al-Kaloub, Director of the Federation, and his assistant for studies and training, Maher Awad.
The representatives of the Jordan Insurance Federation briefed Naif Al-Fayez on the details of the 9th International Conference, its importance, the number of participants, and the tourism and social activities held alongside it. They also discussed its role in supporting various economic sectors related to conference tourism, especially with the increasing number of participants, which exceeded 750 in 2022, compared to 250 participants in 2008, an increase of up to 300%.
In a related context, the organizing committee of the Aqaba Conference held its ninth meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Ayla City, which will host the conference’s events. During the meeting, various topics related to conference activities, facilities, and logistical services for the participants were discussed, aiming to ensure the success of the conference and provide sufficient spaces for bilateral meetings to discuss joint business and arrangements for the accompanying exhibition for sponsor companies and meeting rooms to facilitate communication among participants, especially considering the significant participation of global and Arab insurance and reinsurance companies, as well as brokers in the Jordanian insurance market.
Furthermore, the organizing committee announced the launch of the third edition of the Aqaba Conference Insurance Research Award, which will be presented to the top five research papers under the theme “Bank Assurance: Its Impact on Insurance and Financial Inclusion.”
In conclusion, the conference has made diligent efforts in its preparation, combining a professional and scientific program featuring speakers with extensive experience from local, Arab, and international companies and institutions.
